Editor-in-chief at the Bhekisisa Centre for Health Journalism, Mia Malan says infographics will that make it easier to decipher when South Africans will receive their COVID-19 jab.
Malan was speaking to Radio Islam about the COVID-19 vaccine rollout in South Africa.
The country is currently behind schedule in its vaccine rollout program.
With South Africans still struggling to figure out when they will get a turn for a Coronavirus vaccine, Bhekisisa and Media Hack teamed up to create the infographics.
As part of the Sisonke Study, the first vaccines were specifically aimed at frontline workers, but the vaccines are now making its way to the general populace, with the first group targeted, those over 60-years.
Malan says the infographics collates information to paint a picture of the vaccine rollout plan.
“As you know that the timelines of our vaccination rollout has been changing constantly over the past few weeks. So each time there are significant changes, we will change our infographic to update it.”
However, Malan says the timelines of the vaccine rollout is unclear at the moment.
“We know that the rollout was supposed to start on the 17th (May), but there’s a lot of information about how ready we are that we don’t know yet.”
Malan says the only vaccine currently that can be used and have been approved for rollout is Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson adding that while South Africa has procured enough of both vaccines to inoculate the entire adult population, the vaccines only arrive in batches as manufacturers battled to meet demand.
