[LISTEN] What Needs to be Done to Save South Africa’s Economy

September 14, 2021

Faizel Patel – 14/09/2021

As the country experiences a little bit more freedom with the easing from level three lockdown to level 2, Business Unity South Africa says it has confidence in President Cyril Ramaphosa to rescue the country from the deep economic slump it is currently facing.

Many role players have expressed the belief that South Africa should return to level 1 to give the economy and especially sectors like the tourism and hospitality sector to recover from the difficult economic climate.

At the same time, the repercussions of July’s violent riots are still being felt.

Speaking to Radio Islam, President of Business Unity South Africa, Bonang Mohale says Ramaphosa is leading the country on the right track.

“We have all the confidence in the leadership of President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa. He’s a bit slow, he could be more decisive, there could be more sense of urgency for sure.”

Mohale says the “self-inflicted” deadly unrest in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal in July set the country back at least twenty-years.
