Career coach Quincy Malope says You Tube has become a hit with children for number of reasons including the fame, the sponsorship, the money and the freebies that You Tubers receive.

While children as young as the age of three may not be able to read, they are almost masters at navigating their way around YouTube.

With Children exposed to the reality star life what happens when your teen has this great idea and wants to become a YouTube star, how do parents promote healthy meaningful conversations around this touchy subject?

Speaking to Radio Islam, Malope says You Tube has an alluring effect on children.

“That’s what’s become attractive. It also seems like an easy route to take, ‘let me just upload a few videos and I’ll instantly be famous and I’ll instantly be making money.’ It’s almost like cutting off the traditional route to having a successful career and I think that’s where the allure comes in.”

Malope says You Tube’s list of top fifty stars shows that the number You Tuber earns about $ 300,000 per video with 34.5 million subscribers while the fiftieth star was averaging $ 7,000 per video with 1.1 million subscribers.

She says it is important to for parents and wannabe You Tube stars to take cognizance of the stats released by You Tube.

“If there’s kids listening, but also the parents, given perspective on what a You Tube star actually means, what that earning potential means, but also how difficult it is. It’s not overnight and it doesn’t come easy. You Tube currently has over 1.9 billion users logging into it monthly with content created, uploading over 500 hours of video content per minute, that is insane.”

Malope says while people are career orientated, they should work hard and have fun on their career journey and understand what is going to work for them.
