Palestinian journalist Daoud Kuttab says US President Donald Trump has found weak links in some Arab countries to foster ties with Israel and get re-elected as president of the United States.

Bahrain has become the latest Arab country to normalise relations with Israel.

It did not come as a surprise after Trump announced last month that the United Arab Emirates and Israel had agreed to establish diplomatic ties.

There had been rife speculation that Bahrain would be next

Speaking to Radio Islam, Kuttab says Trump tried to get Saudi Arabia also on board, but the Kingdom refused to budge.

“Apparently they tried very hard to get Saudi Arabia on board and they failed. But there is a problem, we have a US government and Trump administration that is bent on dividing and conquering and unfortunately this is what is happening.”

Kuttab says its unclear which Arab country Trump will poach next to establish ties with Israel in what the Palestinians have termed the “open sellouts club”.

“Well we don’t know. The Trump committee did visit Oman at one time, though the Oman leader at that time was no longer alive. Some suspect it could be Oman, other say it might be Sudan which is trying to get of the terror list. The Americans are waving a kind of quid pro: ‘you do this and we do that for you.'”

Kuttab says Sultan Barakat, Professor of Politics at the University of York mentioned that even if 193 countries normalise relations with Israel, it will not change the reality on the ground adding that because 51% of the people between the River Jordan and the Mediterranean are Palestinian Arabs, there has to be a sharing of land, or power as you cannot keep people under occupation or apartheid rule forever.
