Questions have been raised about why Israel is carrying out a major expansion of its Dimona nuclear facility in the Negev desert, where it has historically made the fissile material for its nuclear arsenal.
Construction work is evident in new satellite images published on Thursday by the International Panel on Fissile Material (IPFM), an independent expert group.
The nuclear facility is a few hundred metres to the south and west of the domed reactor and reprocessing point at the Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center.
The Palestine Information Network’s Hafez Ebrahim Moosa speaking to Radio Islam this morning during the Palestine report says not much is known about why Israel is expanding Dimona nuclear facility.
“Why would Israel be doing this at this point in time? There are varied expert opinions saying that perhaps the Israeli’s need more area at the plant for waster disposal or they want to create a buffer zone around this particular plant incase it is attacked. There is also a suggestion that the Israeli’s when they first built this plant was supposed to last until 2003. But they are trying to extend the life of this plant at least until 2023 or 2043.”
Hafez Moosa also shared his analyses of Zionists accusing Reverend Frank Chikane of declaring war on Israel.
Chikane, moderator of the Commission of the Churches on International Affairs (CCIA) of the World Council of Churches (WCC) speaking to an Internet audience of more than 300 Christian activists portrayed Israelis as demons and said that the world will seek blood from people who support Israel in its fight against the Palestinians.
“He stuck to his comments saying he’s familiar with apartheid in South Africa and he’s visited Palestine many times. He affirms the apartheid nature of Israel saying that he could have perhaps used simpler language but he’s not backing down from his sentiments saying that people can disagree with him but should not distort what he says.”
Hafez Moosa also touched on news about on African National Congress (ANC) secretary general Ace Magashule after his court appearance on Friday on corruption charges comparing himself to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Al Aqsa week planned for March and Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW).
