Angry demonstrators clashed with Palestinian security forces in ongoing protests in the occupied West Bank over the death of an outspoken critic of the Palestinian Authority who died while in PA custody.
According to Nizar Banat’s family, two dozen officers beat him on the head with batons and metal rods.
His death was confirmed a few hours after his arrest.
The Palestine Information Networks (PIN) Hafez Ebrahim Moosa speaking to Radio Islam during the Palestine Report on Monday says Banat was just 43-years old was a vocal critic of the PA.
“In particular corruption as he saw it within the Palestinian Authority and the so called security coordination between the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli occupation. Lately he was extremely vocal as well against this deal the PA had struck with Israel over those near expired vaccines.”
Hafez Moosa says the latest attack on Banat which culminated in his death came on the back of eight previous imprisonments by the PA.
“Just in May there was an attack on his home and there were many threats on him from the PA intelligence apparatus.”
Hafez Moosa also spoke about the reconstruction of Gaza at a deadlock after Israel’s attack and more demotions of Palestinian homes in another neighbourhood.
