The speaker of the National Assembly says she hopes President Cyril Ramaphosa will calm the fear that have enveloped South Africans.
Thandi Modise was speaking to Radio Islam in Parliament ahead of Ramaphosa’s state of the nation (Sona) address on Thursday.
The economy, job creation, and the management of the country’s key state-owned enterprises (SOEs) are expected to feature prominently in Ramaphosa’s speech to the nation.
Modise says there are a number of fears gripping South Africans
“I am also hoping that outside the economy that there is social life, that people are panicking that we’ve got too much violence in the streets and in the homes, that we’ve got too much drugs out there. I’m hoping that the president will find time to just calm all our fears and the poor man will not be able to address every fear that we have, but he can contribute towards us sitting down and finding solutions to solve our own problems.”
Modise also says that while no motions have been passed for a moments silence during the sona for the passing away or former Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi, she hopes parliament will pass a condolence motion that will be formally sent to Egypt.
