The Taliban says freedom and independence is a legitimate right of every nation including Afghanistan.
Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid was addressing the media on Tuesday following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan on Sunday.
The Taliban seized ten provincial capitals, including the movement’s spiritual home of Kandahar in less than a week.
On Sunday, Kabul fell without a fight as the Taliban entered the city and President Ashraf Ghani fled the country.
Mujahid says the Afghans also used their legitimate right after twenty years of struggle for freedom and emancipation from US occupation.
“We achieved this right and we would like to express our gratitude to Almighty God for having brought us to this stage and I would like to thank God for giving freedom to this nation.”
Mujahid says the Taliban is not going to take revenge on anybody or any country including the US.
“We do not have any grudges against anybody, we know that we have been undergoing very challenging period and crisis, a lot of mistakes that were made and at the advantage of the occupiers. We wanted to make sure that Afghanistan is not the battlefield of conflict anymore on the basis of the order of the Ameer-ul-Mu’mineen. We have pardoned anyone, all those who have fought against us.”
Mujahid says the Taliban will respect women’s rights.
“The Islamic Emirate is committed to the rights of women within the framework of Shariah. Our sisters, our women will have the same rights and will be able to benefit from their rights. They can have activities in different sectors and different areas on the basis of our rules and regulations, educational, health and other areas.”
Mujahid says the Taliban will be interacting with the international community and other countries to build the infrastructure of Afghanistan and boost the economy of the country.
