[LISTEN] Social Activist Yusuf Abramjee Urges South Africans to get Vaccinated Against COVID-19

August 22, 2021

Faizel Patel – 22/08/2021

As the country ramps up its COVID-19 vaccination rollout with 18 to 34-year-olds also eligible to get their jabs, social activist Yusuf Abramjee says there has been a massive turnout at the Zwartkop Raceway drive-thru along the R55 in Centurion.

Abramjee was speaking to Radio Islam, encouraging South Africans to get vaccinated against the Coronavirus.

A number of drive thru vaccine sites have been established over the past few week including Saaberie Chishty and the Houghton Masjid centers.

The drive-thru’s have made it simple for South Africans wanting to get vaccinated with minimal waiting time and short queues.

Abramjee says the Zwartkop Raceway drive thru in conjunction with the Laudium community, surrounding areas and the Gauteng government was officially opened over a week ago by Gauteng Premier David Makhura.

“Alhamdulillah, the intention was to see how many people we can vaccinate, because we believe that vaccination do save lives and we are making great strides especially since the registration process opened for over 18—year-old’s on Friday morning.”

Abramjee says many people do want to be vaccinated against the Coronavirus.

“There seems to be great enthusiasm, not only by the over 18’s but from the seniors to come for the jab.”

Abramjee however says people are not being forced to vaccinate.

“It’s every individuals right to believe in the vaccine or not. It’s every individuals right to believe in COVID-19 or not, but let’s also not be hypocrites. There are some people and its come to our attention and I’ve alerted the authorities who are buying vaccination cards. There are some people who are going to vaccination sites saying that ‘we don’t believe in the vaccine, we need the certificate to travel, enter it on the system but don’t gives us the vaccine.’ Let’s not be fooled by these hypocrites.”

Over the past 24-hour period, over ten million South Africans had received the COVID-19 jab.
