South African’s have been warned to brace for cold weather conditions in the coming days.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) says the cold snap will hit a number of provinces starting on Friday and into the weekend.
Gauteng, the Free State, KwaZulu Natal, Mpumalanga and parts of the Eastern Cape can expect the mercury to drop significantly including experiencing showers and thundershowers.
Forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela says the cold weather is part of the start of the winter season.
“Johannesburg will be seeing a maximum of 19°C on Friday and on Saturday it’s gonna drop even further to 18°C. So it’s going to be cold this coming weekend.”
Thobela says people in KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape & Lesotho should take caution during the adverse weather conditions.
“The people in the KZN area, we are expecting tomorrow heavy rainfall with flooding in places where we are heaving an 80% chance of showers and thundershowers. The people staying in the highest peak in the escarpment of KZN and Eastern Cape and some parts of Lesotho will experience snowfalls there, so people can be cautious when they are driving.
Thobela says the weather still start warming up from Saturday but with minimal temperatures.
