A 33-year-old South African artist has become a Guinness World Record holder after creating the largest coffee mosaic in the world.

Percy Maimela from Winterveld north of Pretoria created a picture of popular South African DJ Black Coffee using nothing but coffee grounds.

Maimela’s career began after a customer dropped salt in a supermarket he was working in and Instead of calling someone to clean it up, he started playing around with it and by the time he was done, it had transformed into a beautiful artwork.

The record breaking artwork was displayed at Sandton city until Saturday before being taken down.

Maimela says every person has the potential to learn certain skills that they can use to grow themselves.

“It’s not about me. It’s about all of us using our potential to create what we can. I am an artist but someone else might be a soccer player. If you’re a soccer player, for example, focus on what you’re doing and ensure you’re enjoying it.”

The CEO of marketing company Brainfarm Dean Carlson says the record attempt is to promote an event called Sound Idea sessions where DJ Black Coffee and his team speak about how they use marketing strategies and techniques  to take the black coffee brand global.
