Former prosecutor Glynnis Breytenbach has told Radio Islam former crime intelligence head Richard Mdluli is likely to appeal his conviction after he was found guilty of kidnapping and assaulting Oupa Ramogibe, who married Mdluli’s former lover, Tshidi Buthelezi.

Mdluli and his co-accused, Mthembeni Mthunzi, were also found guilty of intimidation.

Ramogibe was murdered in 1999 in an alleged robbery gone wrong.

Breytenbach says while justice has been served, Mdluli will appeal the ruling.

“I presume that Mdluli would appeal once the process is run its course, so after sentencing. Certainly, sentence is an option in this matter. He was a very high ranking police official, he has spent years frustrating this matter and avoiding prosecution and interfering in the process.”

Mdluli was found guilty of four counts of intimidation, three counts of assault and two counts of kidnapping in relation to the 1999 love triangle.
