The Muslim community in Welkom in the Free State is still in shock and devastated following the demise of well-known doctor, Mohammed Bobat.

Dr Bobat passed away early Sunday morning.

He  was known for his work at Bongani Regional Hospital in Welkom and Welkom Medi Clinic.

Dr Bobat is the second doctor within a week to have lost his life due to COVID-19 circumstances.

Speaking to Radio Islam, Dr Yacoob Vahed, a colleague of Dr Bobat says the community is still coming to terms with the passing of the renowned physician.

“We have lost many colleagues throughout the country and many friends and family, but for some reasons when we lost Dr. Bobat yesterday, the numbness, the grief, the sorrow was Palbable. He was very well known and very well liked.”

Dr Vahed says Dr Bobat was also an active member of the Muslim community.

“We used to meet at the masjid as regular musallees. Besides that, we were on the shura of the masjid and the Islamic school that started a bit later and Dr Bobat was also an active member on the Zakaat committee.”

Dr Vahed says Dr Bobat was a selfless individual who was always willing to sacrifice his private life for the service of the community.
