Police have seized drugs worth an estimated at R 2.7 million in KwaZulu-Natal.
It’s believed officers at Pongola received information that a vehicle transporting narcotics from Mozambique had crossed the border into South Africa.
During the search police found 15kg of suspected heroine hidden in the spare wheels of the vehicle.
Speaking to Radio Islam, the police’s Jay Naicker says a 40-year-old suspect has been arrested for possession of drugs.
“This isn’t a specific time for them to travel, but I think also the fact that he’s hidden it in the spare tyre, he didn’t think that the police officers or anybody detect it so he was quite brazen in the way he was transporting the drugs.”
KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula says the recovery of such a huge consignment of drugs is a major breakthrough for the province and demonstrates the determination police officers to stem cross border crimes during this festive season.
