A white American Christian living in Pakistan for the last ten years has told Radio Islam the love, hospitality and culture of Pakistani’s is overwhelming and counters any negative narratives portrayed in the media.
Christina Ritchie who is a communications consultant says Pakistan like every other country in the world has many challenges.
Ritchie says it’s not surprising that Pakistani’s haven’t seen the rest of the country because of the negative perception in the media about the south East Asian country.
She says Pakistani’s have bought into the narrative that the entire country is a terrorist haven.
“Pakistani’s have this overwhelming feeling that because they comes from a so called terrorist nation that they are all themselves terrorists as well. It’s that cognitive dissidence, sort of double mindedness challenge that I’ve discovered that they have about how they simultaneously want tourism, they know that tourism and foreign dollars that will help the economy grow. But at the same time there is a bit of resentment and a bit of suspiciousness that’s’ still pervasive.”
Ritchie says newly elected Prime Minister Imran Khan if allowed to challenge the bureaucracy, has the sense and ability to build a good team and good leaders.
