The national executive member of People against Gangsterism and Drugs (PAGAD) says notorious former underworld gang figure Rashied Staggie was not befitting to his name and they have no remorse over his death.
It’s understood the 58-year-old Hard Livings gang leader was gunned down in Salt River on Friday morning.
Staggie was jailed for 15 years for his role in the kidnapping and rape of a 15-year-old girl in 2003.
Speaking to Radio Islam, Pagad’s Zohra Kriel says Rashied Staggie never reformed from his gangster activities.
“Staggie was not befitting to his name Rashied which means rightfully guided and pious. He was certainly none of that. He was never reformed and he was a cold blooded murderer and he admitted this clearly himself that he feels absolutely nothing when he’s shooting or killing someone.”
Kriel says she had a few run-ins with Staggie.
“I has certain encounters with Staggie himself. Gangsters are really cowardice. During a drug awareness programme and on that particular they came into our programme beating up women and children and running out.”
Kriel says communities in Cape Town battle the gang activities on daily basis with little or no help from the police.
