A Muslim revert and survivor of the New Zealand Mosque attack in which 51 people were mercilessly murdered has told self-confessed white supremacist Brenton Tarrant to read the Qur’an while he is in prison.
Brenton was sentenced on Thursday to life in prison without the possibility of parole, the first time the maximum available sentence has been imposed in New Zealand.
During the four-day sentencing hearing, 90 survivors and family members recounted the horror of that day and the trauma they continue to feel.
The survivor, while addressing Tarrant told him to reflect on his actions while in prison.
“When you get a free minute, which you’ll have plenty of, maybe you should try and read the Qur’an, it’s beautiful.”
The survivor also said that Tarrant had brought shame on Europeans across the world.
“You killed in my name. I am white, Muslim and proud. All you have done is cause great shame for Europeans all around the world. I have been a Muslim for about nine years, it was the best decision I’ve ever made, the best decision I’ve ever made.”
The survivor told Tarrant that while they had sadness in their hearts, the Muslims that died are the lucky ones as they have gone straight to heaven.
