President Cyril Ramaphosa has the highest level of trust among South Africans, while Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma the highest distrust.
This is according to new research by research company Ask Afrika.
Although most South Africans trust the president and approve of his leadership, that trust has slightly declined over the past four weeks.
Ask Afrika’s CEO and Founder Andrea Rademeyer says it is astounding for any president in a democracy to have a trust rating of 85%.
“It’s remarkable his distrust stands at 8% which is also low. In any survey, one usually has about 15% respondents that are against something. But Mrs. Dlamini-Zuma has 25% strong distrust which is more than three times higher than his.”
Rademeyer says Dr Zweli Mkhize also has a very high trust rating.
“When we asked who citizens want to hear from, Dr Mkhize had the highest rating, 78% said they want to hear from him more than once a week or once a week followed by President Ramaphosa, they want to hear more than once a week or weekly from him. The lowest rating again was from Dr Dlamini-Zuma.
Rademeyer says at the beginning of the lockdown, Ramaphosa had very strong ratings, but this dipped over the last four weeks.
