Muhammad Shakeel Garda, the son of former SAFM talk show host Ashraf Garda has been elected President of Union of Muslim Students Associations (MSA)
The MSA hosted its National Elective Camp from the 6th to the 9th December in Verulam, Kwa Zulu Natal under the theme The Creator and his creatives.
The camp drew students from across the country including Cape Town and Limpopo.
Incumbent President Shakeel Garda says his task will be to revive the MSA including the rekindling of the youth amongst the Muslim community.
“We have a lot more to do. To go back a bit to the 1970’s to the 1980’s to reconfigure this organization and its purpose and intention. But obviously looking at today’s challenges and not towing try to toe the line of old merely because, but rather to look at and reshape it and make good intentions for the future that reads the ground more carefully and actually looks towards the future.”
Former secretary general of the MSA Irfaan Mangera says it was amazing serving the MSA.
“We looked at and analyzed the national body and said no we need to create some change to that we give the next committee and the future generation a platform that is actually going to be effective when dealing with issues that arise.”
Mangera says they remain hopeful that the new committee under the leadership of Shakeel Garda will continue on the work they had done, and ensure that all the MSA’s policies are implemented across the country.
