The developer of a scholar transport mobile app has told Radio Islam she created the application to help parents and schools to track scholar transport vehicle in real time.

Tshidi Morabi developed Android LocTransie app to provide parents and schools with SMS notifications of their children’s journey to and from school.

The app’s name is derived from “Loc” for “locate” and “Transie” for “transport” in township slang.

Morabi, who has more than 20-years’ worth of experience in the IT sector says she developed the app out of frustration of not knowing the whereabouts of her children when transported from home to school and back.

She says the app which is free, will greatly assist parents to know the location of their school going children.

“We also experience the same worries as parents, rich or poor, and I said let it be free and see how it goes.”

To use the app, the parent, school administrator and transport providers will have to download the app and create a profile.

The parents will then add a child’s name and link the child to their school and scholar transport company. This will populate a list for the driver to know which child is in his care.

The app uses the e-mail addresses of the parents, driver and school administrator rather than their names.

The app is available in the Google Play Store and Morabi expects to release the iOS version by the end of 2019.
