Saaberie Chishty Society says the organization has conducted extensive research on the burial process of Muslims who have passed away from COVID-19.
As the pandemic continues to spread across the globe, guidelines for Muslim burials needed to be established in order to keep those involved in the process safe.
In Islam, it is required that when a person passes away they be buried immediately.
Speaking to Radio Islam, Saaberie Chishty’s Abu Bakr Sayed says they looked at various videos of burials performed in different countries and were shocked by what they saw.
Sayed says this prompted Saaberie Chishty to set up guidelines and procedures for the Muslim burial process under COVID-19 conditions.
“We spoke to medical personnel and tried to find out more about this. Spoke to infection control, tried to get guidelines. We also created a document which is now being used throughout the country for Muslim burials and protocols and procedure. Also with the Islamic Medical Association, doctors got involved and we also following all these guidelines which is suggested best ways or best practice of trying to do the ghusal and procedure.”
Sayed says COVID-19 is a real pandemic and not just a conspiracy theory.
“I wish it was a hoax. I wish it wasn’t true. I wish this was a dream that we are living in and we wake up and it’s all gone. But truth be told, in reality it’s out there, we are seeing every day this happen. A number of our medical colleagues are seeing more and more cases being reported in their practices.”
Sayed says many burial societies throughout the country are urging more people to get involved in the burial process, especially the process under COVID19.
