The African National Congress’ (ANC)Fasiha Hassan says she is looking forward to representing the youth and Muslims of South Africa as she prepares to take the oath of office in Gauteng.

Hassan will be sworn in as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature on Wednesday.

Hassan says she will be taking the oath of public office with the Holy Quran, the very same Qur’an that her parents brought back for her from their Hajj last year in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

“It’s a very significant thing for me as a Muslim, as a Muslim woman who’s going to be entering public office. Not only our we challenging stereotypes, but we all know that when you place Allah at the centre of what you’re doing, everything just works out.”

Hassan says while Muslims have a lot of civil liberties in South Africa, she hopes her position as MPL IN Gauteng will be an opportunity to spread dawah which not many people are taking advantage of.
