South Africa has lost yet another esteemed Islamic dignitary.

Mufti Abdullah bin Hafiz Abdur Rahman who was in his 70’s passed away on Tuesday after a long illness.

Mufti Abdullah was son of late Hafez Abdur Rahman Mia of Mia’s Farm, the teacher of many renowned Islamic scholars who graduated under his tutorship in the former Transvaal and Natal region.

Mufti Abdullah ran a Makhtab at Takolia’s farm and graduated in Darul Uloom Deoband in India

Ml Sulaimaan Ravat who was a student of Mufti Abdullah says Mufti Abdullah was renowned for his deep academic ability when it came to matters of fiqh.

“Mufti saab was very particular about teaching us the 99 names of Allah and 40 Ahadith by heart. When he would write his name, he would write it with a capital ‘A’ then a small ‘b’ and‘d’, Abdullah, the ‘u’ as well. But when it came to the word ‘Allah’, he would write it all in big caps out of reverence and respect for the name of Allah.”

Mufti Abdullah also in the late 70’s authored the popular hajj book, book Hajj, Umrah, and Ziyarah
