Esteemed Islamic scholar Mufti Zubair Bayat has advised parents to forgive children who have disrespected and hurt them so that they do not suffer the punishment of Allah.

Mufti Bayat was answering a question on Radio Islam’s fiqh question and answer programme on Monday about the consequences in this world and the hereafter for a son who has broken ties with his father for two years and also hurt and rebuked him in public.

Sadly, society has evolved from a culture of stringent honour and respect for parents to a world where some of today’s children give scant regard, appreciation and importance to the value of a mother and father.

Mufti Bayat says parents should forgive their children for the wrongs they have done against them for the pleasure of Allah.

“Obviously the son has done very, very wrong if he has not treated his parents well, hasn’t spoken to them nicely, has been rude, he has hurt their feelings, obviously this is a very, very bad thing. May Allah save us all from such a behavior, the result of it will not be good in dunya and aakhirat.”

Mufti Bayat says children must ask for forgiveness from their parents so as to avoid passing away under the umbrella of Allah’s displeasure.
