Esteemed Islamic Scholar Mufti Yusuf Moosagie says that while mundanity sets in in most couple’s lives after marriage, there are a number of ways in keeping the spark alive between husband and wife as mentioned by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Mufti Moosagie was rendering advice during a nikaah ceremony.
In the current era and reality of life there is no eternal honeymoon and a lot more effort is required to ensure the flame of love continues to burn in the hearts of the couple.
Mufti Moosagie says Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) indicated in a hadeeth that any activity that is done other than in the name of Allah is futile.
He says among the three things mentioned in the hadeeth by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) includes a person preparing his bow and arrow in relation to Jihad, training his horse and literally playing with his wife.
“To engage his wife in a jovial, uplifting and a fun manner and that is something that for the man getting married today, it comes so natural, you don’t have to tell him about it, it will just happen. But for people that are married for twelve years and for those that are married for thirty, forty and fifty years, it become a tedious task, something that is almost like a chore.”
Mufti Moosagie says Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) engaged in a number of activities with Hazrat Aisha (RA) and also made time for her, a critical ingredient to a happy marriage.
“As the years go on, you will have to take out time and continue to engage in this way. If you don’t you will live parallel lives.”
Mufti Moosagie says the real spark of marriage lies in the couple spending time together.
