[LISTEN] Mufti Afzal Hoosen Elias’ Contributions Acknowledged on the Airwaves of Radio Islam

Radio Islam International PRO Ismail Variawa says, Mufti Afzal Hoosen Elias was an astute Islamic scholar who used to simplify the basic fiqh and teachings of Islam. 

Mufti Elias who was the Deputy Amir of the Jamiatul Ulama KwaZulu-Natal passed away on Wednesday after a long illness.

The esteemed scholar was born In Estcourt, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.

Apart from secular education, Mufti Elias obtained a number of qualifications from Darul Uloom Deoband, including a Fazail Alim Certificate in India – 1983 and a Mufti Certificate – 1984.

Mufti Elias was also reported to have written and translated over 600 publications including recording works in audio for the blind.

Variawa says Mufti Elias also used host two very successful programmes on Radio Islam International

“To our listeners, it is not somebody who is not known. The people who have been with Radio Islam since inception and we are talking about Radio Islam is now 21 years. So he was with us in the very early years and he has done all of than Alhamdulillah.”

Variawa says he has very fond memories of Mufti Elias and his passing is a huge loss to the community.
