The Gauteng Education Department says it is awaiting the outcome of the disciplinary processes of other educators involved in misconduct, which led to the death of Parktown Boys pupil Enock Mpianzi.

The comes after the department announced on Monday that the principal of Parktown Boys High School, Malcolm Williams had been fired.

Thirteen-year-old Mpianzi drowned in the Crocodile River at a lodge in the North West while on a school orientation camp earlier this year.

An investigation by the department found Williams guilty of taking pupils on the trip without prior approval from the department.

He was also found guilty of failing to ensure a correct roll call for all pupils who went on the excursion.

Department spokesperson Steve Mabona says other educators involved in the incident are also facing disciplinary processes.

“The process of discipline continues for the educators that were involved and the district officials. Each and everyone has a role to play or has a role that they played.”

Mabona says Williams has the right to appeal to the Member of the Executive Council against the findings by the Presiding Officer within five working days of his receiving of the dismissal notice.
