Former Democratic Alliance (DA)  and One South Africa Movement leader Mmusi Maimane says Tony Leon’s “experiment” remarks” is dehumanising and deeply offensive.

Leon went to the top of social media threats on Saturday after an interview covering among others his new book Future Tense, surfaced.

Leon was quoted as saying Maimane was “an experiment [that] went wrong” when he was elected as leader of the DA in 2015.

Speaking to Radio Islam, Maimane says the is “experiment” remarks” was hurtful.

“It doesn’t matter what the context is. We have a history globally of experiments being done on human beings. So I think that it’s not a slip of the tongue, it’s deliberate, intended pronouncement on his part.”

Maimane says he does not believe that he was used by the DA because of the color of his skin.

“When I went into the DA I wanted to build about the change. I’ve had the backing of the federal executive, federal council. We were working hard to bring change to this country and for a long time it was. The issue was not to use others or not, the issue was that there were some others when you reflect on the comments that you’ve made rejected that project, rejected the idea that we need redress.”

Maimane says he left the party because his attempts to transform the organisation failed
