Have you pondered about the effect your mood has on those around you?
Esteemed Islamic scholar Ml Sulaimaan Ravat on Tuesday while sharing the latest weather updates expounded on the common phrase of “his or her mood is like the weather” depicting the demeanor that we exude and what the impact may be on others.
Ml Ravat says people should at least try to make sure “your weather” is pleasant.
“You wake up in the morning and you don’t know what the weather is going to be like, whether it’s going to rain, not going to rain whether it’s going to be hot or cool. Some people have such a temperament that their spouses, their children, their colleagues they don’t know what the weather is going to be like in terms of their mood. Sometimes in English they say ‘we don’t know what side of the bed he woke up this morning.’”
Ml Ravat says we all have fluctuations in our temperament.
“There are time when you are happy, when you are sad, jubilant, down and disillusioned. That’s part of being human, that’s part of life. But we should not be at extremes where you are very happy and you are very angry where your mood can just switch in an instant. That’s not the temperament of a believer, it’s not the temperament which is in line with the Sunnah of Rasulullah (saw).”
Ml Ravat has advised that as Muslims we should ponder about our temperament and make an effort to control it so that it can have a more pleasant effect on us and those around us.
