The United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) has confirmed that the moon for the Islamic month of Dhu al Qa’dah has been sighted in South Africa.
UUCSA’s Ml Ebrahim Bham made the announcement on Friday.
Therefore the 1st of Dhu al Qa’dah 1442 will be on Saturday 12 June 2021
Ml Bham says Allah mentions in the Holy Qur’an that four out of the twelve Islamic months are sacred.
“Ulama has written, out of those four sacred months, three are consecutive, Dhu al Qa’dah, Dhu al Hijjah and Muharram and the other is Rajab. What is the meaning of being sacred? That we give it the due attention and we give it due respect and honour and stay away from violating the sacredness of this month.”
Ml Bham says Dhu al Qa’dah also leads to the month of Hajj.
“Therefore we should be welcoming this month with the attention that the shariah has given it.”
With the blessed month of Dhu al Hijjah just a month away, it is still unclear whether South Africans will be allowed to perform Hajj this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and also flights from the country to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia being temporarily suspended.
