Esteemed Islamic scholar and representative of the United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) Ml Ebrahim Bham says the decision of the moon not being sighted in South Africa to mark the end of the blessed month of Ramadan has been widely accepted.
Ml Bham was speaking during the Social programme on Radio Islam on Thursday.
UUCSA on Wednesday announced that after extensive consultation with other Ulama bodies under its umbrella, the moon for the Islamic month of Shawwal 1442 was not sighted and that South African Muslims would be celebrating Eid on Friday.
Ml Bham says Allah has given Muslims a beautiful Ramadan and that we should appreciate it.
“I made so much dua, ‘Ya Allah we had such a beautiful Ramadan, don’t end it with bitterness and acrimony.’ Alhamdulillah, yesterday we had a decision that has been made that Alhamdulillah by and large it has been accepted. It put paid to those people who were actually looking for a fight and who were looking for fitnah. They were trying their utmost to create a fitnah, Allah (SWT) quelled it and Allah (SWT) brought about stability.”
Ml Bham says the day of Eid-ul-Fitr is a day of happiness and has encouraged Muslims to keep it happy and foster ties with family, friends and colleagues.
“So let us in a similar manner try to find situations which brings stability, happiness, love, kindness and compassion. Whenever Allah (SWT) wants goodness in a household, in a family, Allah (SWT) introduces kindness, not fighting.”
Ml Bham says while the Muslim Ummah is facing a number of challenges, it is only the power of Dua and turning to Allah that He the Almighty can alleviate the trials, tribulations and problems to unite the Muslims in South Africa and across the globe.
