The Muslim community in South Africa have been shattered and left heartbroken after three people lost their lives in a motor vehicle accident during the auspicious and blessed month of Ramadan.
It is understood Hajee Qaasim Desai, his son Yusuf Desai and his 17-year-old grandson Muhammad Ilyaas were on their way back from performing Taraweeh when they were involved in a fatal accident that claimed their lives.
The accident happened on Monday near Richmond in Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal.
Speaking to Radio Islam, esteemed Islamic scholar Ml Ahmed Akoo who knew the marhoomeen and the family say the Muslim community is heartbroken by the passing of the grandfather, son and grandson who were outstanding individuals and well-known.
“It was such a dull dark and sad moment for all the people of Pietermaritzburg, all of the people of Richmond especially. When you look at what type of people they were, these are people that I personally knew myself. Hajee Qaasim Desai was an absolute pioneer of the town of Richmond, his son Hafez Yusuf Desai was such an amazing person and obviously, we have the youngster, his son that have passed away, just 17-year-old. Such beautiful individuals and really key role players in the community.”
Ml Ahmed Akoo says Hajee Qaasim was very involved in tabligh and going out in the path of Allah.
He says the marhoomeen had just spent the day fasting for the pleasure of Allah and after concluding the fast, they had gone to recite the Taraweeh salaah during the blessed month of Ramadan, with father and son being both hufaadh
“From the narrations of the Prophet (SAW), when a person goes for salaah, he is in the path of Allah up until the point he comes back home. Not only that but the entire duration that he is proceeding for salaah and coming back home, there are Angels of Allah that are constantly making dua for that individual, that’s under normal circumstances. The same very act of goodness carried out in the month of Ramadan carries so much more reward.”
Ml Akoo has urged the Muslim community of South Africa to make dua that Allah grant Qaasim Desai, his son Yusuf and his grandson the highest stages of Jannatul Firdous and also sabr-e-jameel to the family and friends of the marhoomeen.
Ml Akoo adds that the fourth occupant in the car has suffered some minor injuries and is currently recuperating.
