Liberty Fighters Network (LFN) says they want Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs minister, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma to be held in contempt of court and sentenced to a six-months in jail for extending the national state of disaster and reimplementing level 3 restrictions.
The LFN’s Reyno de Beer was speaking to Radio Islam on Thursday as the country battles the second wave of COVID-19 with an exacerbated spike in the number of cases and deaths.
De Beer and the LFN have filed papers with the Gauteng High Court, Pretoria in which they say they will be back in the urgent court on Tuesday.
De Beer says Dlamini-Zuma failed to properly lodge an appeal in connection with sections of the national state of disaster.
“She was actually in defiance of the court order because the original court order stated that the closure of beaches were unconstitutional and invalid. Subsequently she also reintroduced the level 3 regulations and when we again reprimanded her to say that she had included regulations that also have lapsed from the appeal. She indicated in a letter to us that they basically did it to circumvent the court order as well.”
Despite the dramatic increases in Coronavirus infections and related deaths De Beer says it is time to decide whether the national state of disaster must come to an end.
“There are sufficient other ways in dealing with an alleged disease. But we need to come to a conclusion to say are we going to continue with this, are we going to continue living in fear. This is what is happening, we are all living in feat at this stage. Most people are not fearing the COVID-19 claimed disease, but they are actually fearing the possible prosecution if the transgress the regulations.”
De Beer says a three-day survey conducted by the group also showed that 98.6% of respondents indicated that they are against the compulsory wearing of masks.
“It’s totally against the general narrative that is being pushed by many other large mainstream media houses where it’s apparently indicated that the majority of people are pro wearing of masks which is not the case.”
De Beer says Government has no respect for court orders and they are praying that their case is successful to hold Dlamini Zuma in contempt.
