The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa has urged the Muslim community to be vigilant and to turn to Allah in repentance during uncertain and difficult times.

This comes after chaos erupted in areas including  central Johannesburg, Jeppestown, Malvern, Fordsburg, Tembisa and Central Tshwane.

Police had to use rubber bullets and stun grenades in a bid to disperse the crowds

More than 90 people across Gauteng have been arrested following the sporadic looting and violence.

Secretary General of the Jamiat SA Ml Ebrahim Bham says the situation in South Africa and particularly in Johannesburg is of great concern.

“On such occasions our Ulama have told us since there is a co-relationship between a’amal (actions) and deeds and situations, we turn towards Allah. Many Ulama have called upon the Ummah to make istighfar (repentance) and making istighfar we are supposed to make with a plural term nastaghfirullah (we need to repent) at least a hundred to two or three hundred times a day, making istighfar on behalf of the entire ummah.”

Ml Bham says people should also give charity, as charity dispels hardships.
