With the looming general election in South Africa, some South African are in a dilemma who to vote for?

Questions have been raised about whether a vote for minority party is a wasted vote, or can these small parties really makes a difference and take South Africa forward?

Minority parties, especially those that represent marginalised groups, can play a vital role in agenda-setting and raising issues that might otherwise be ignored.

There are 11 small political parties in Parliament that received less than 10% of the vote during the last general election — each one of which is either regional or represents a minority voice.

The general narrative from the bigger parties as we move towards the elections, is that voting for a small party is a waste of a vote.
