The founder of Accidental Muslims who recovered from COVID-19 says he decided to share his experience to debunk some of the myths and fake news about the pandemic and to guide others who may have contracted the virus.
Khalil Aleker was speaking to Radio Islam on Tuesday about his battle with the Coronavirus.
Aleker says while he experienced the excruciating symptoms associated with COVID-19 he was not alone and had the support of his family.
He says everybody has a different perspective of the pandemic.
“Certain people when I told them, they said: ‘it’s the end for you.’ They thought it’s a death sentence, they were really shocked. Some of them thought wow this COVID-19 actually exists, is it really true or is it a sort of conspiracy? Some close family and friends said it’s a stigma and said don’t tell anyone, keep it quiet and let the fourteen days go by and Insha’Allah you’ll recover.”
Aleker says when the lockdown was initiated by President Cyril Ramaphosa, he and his family decided to stay at home and isolate, but he still contracted COVID-19 without even venturing out of his house.
“The only way I got it was or we got it was those deliveries. That was the only external factor, someone coming to the door and giving us products or maybe giving a pen and signing. I think that there we were probably a bit lackey.”
Aleker says people need to be also mentally strong when they contract the virus, including having the conviction that Allah will cure you from the COVID-19 Insha’Allah.
