Despite the difficult economic climate in South Africa, smartphone brand Honor is making a significant impact with its affordable and feature packed devices that rival some of the bigger brands.

The Chinese company which is a budget brand of Huawei, has clinched the fourth spot in the South African smartphone market behind Apple, Samsung and Huawei.

In March, the company launched the Honor 10 Lite, which it calls a “good looking” phone because of its ability to use the 24MP AI-Powered selfie camera to capture stunning selfies.

Speaking to Radio Islam, CEO Raymond Liu says the brand is doing very well in South Africa.

“We have managed to double our market share in the past few months and also in the channels we are working with, we are well on track to be the number four brands (sic).”

Liu also says it’s back to business as usual after US President Donald Trump lifted the ban on Huawei which also affected Honor.

“It indeed brought some negative impact to our business, but it’s not a fatal problem. We managed to maintain business continuity.”

Liu says as the brand continues to establish itself in South Africa, it will introduce more devices including wearables.
