Tensions flared between Israel and Lebanon after anti-tank missiles launched by Hezbollah struck territory in Israel from southern Lebanon, following a week of ongoing tensions between the countries.

Israel says it fired back yesterday after 19 rockets were launched from Lebanon, and Prime Minister Naftali Bennett swiftly convened a meeting with the country’s top defense officials.

No casualties were reported.

Speaking to Radio Islam during the Palestine Report, the Palestine Information Networks Hafez Ebrahim Moosa says Israel has shelled Lebanon for the first time after many years.

“The last time something spilled over on this nature was 2014 when Israeli war planes stuck Syrian border. So the tensions are quite high and every now and then it seem to spill over in various border areas of Lebanon, but this seems to be the worst in quite a few years.”

Hafez Moosa says the escalation also comes on the brink of the anniversary the thirty-three day war in 2006 where one thousand two hundred people were killed in Lebanon as a result of an Israeli attack.

“Coming at this time obviously it brings to the fore the wounds of that particular conflict. Although the tensions seem to be high at the moment, there seems to be talk of containment to void any further spill over with Israel placing priority on the visit between the prime minister Naftali Bennet, his visit the the United States.”

Hafez Moosa also shared news about the Sheikh Jarrah settlement court case and Saudi Arabia sentencing Palestinian activists.
