Former Joburg mayor and Action SA leader Herman Mashaba has told Radio Islam that current mayor Geoff Makhubo has taken corruption to another level.
Makhubo appeared in front of the Zondo comission last week to account for a R35.7 million payment, spanning eight years paid to Molelwane Consulting, a company owned by him and Regiments Capital.
The mayor told the Commission that he saw nothing wrong in his company doing business with the City.
Mashaba, has called for action to be taken against Makhubo.
“When Geoff was brought in to be the mayor, I think he must have been planted there by the Guptas and Regiment Capital because even beyond 2011 continued and actually took the corruption to another level.”
Mashaba questioned whether the African National Congress (ANC) has the capacity to differentiate between right and wrong.
“In the 26-years I’ve already known them. Before that we were under the impression that they were a credible organisation, but post Nelson Mandela for some reason the ANC does not really have the capacity to differentiate between right and wrong.”
Earlier, ENS Forensics managing director Steven Powell, testifying before the commission, revealed that the city had also been embroiled in another tender scandal involving the bankrolling of the ANC in Johannesburg with funds from city contracts.
