The Hawks say the four men accused of kidnapping a Durban businesswoman may be linked to other crimes in the country.
Sandra Moonsamy, the daughter of a prominent KwaZulu-Natal family, was kidnapped in May while driving in Pinetown outside Durban and held captive until police tracked her to a house in eMalahleni in Mpumalanga, last week.
The accused aged between 30 and 34 appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court on Monday.
They have been charged with kidnapping, extortion, robbery and two counts of attempted murder, and remaining in the country without a valid permit.
Speaking to Radio Islam, Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi says they are investigating whether the accused are linked to any other criminal activity.
“We are also on record to say they we will be contacting other law enforcement agencies in the region as well as Interpol to check if these suspects that we’ve arrested are linked to any cases.”
Mulaudzi says two of the suspects are Mozambican nationals while the nationalities of the other two who claim to be South Africa is yet to be determined.
