Following the devastating attack on Gaza, a social activist says the enclave remains calm as Gazans start the process of rebuilding their homes after the war.
Issam Hammad was speaking Radio Islam on Monday following the ceasefire on Friday.
At least 274 Palestinians including 66 children and 39 women were by killed by Israeli occupation forces while scores of others were wounded.
Hammad says the war which has been very brutal and intense will not stop Palestinians from continuing with their lives.
“I am talking to you from my office. I started working yesterday which is Sunday. The war ended Friday which is a holiday. Friday and Saturday are holidays. So we started immediately to go to work Sunday morning and we are commencing our normal life. This aggression on Gaza will not hold or stop us from living normal lives even though we are mourning our martyrs.”
Hammad says Gazans are using the rubble caused by the Israeli attacks to rebuild their homes.
“The Palestinians in Gaza are very hard workers. They have immediately started to take out rubbles and recycle it then they will start immediately rebuild and fix what has been destroyed and immediately start life.”
Hammad says the Palestinians are very proud of their victory over Israel.
“Hamas is the biggest faction in Gaza from the resistance factions. We must admit that they have done a great job within this last round. The reason I am saying this to other people may understand me very well is simply because the Palestinian people are looking for freedom, not looking for war. They are looking for freedom.”
Hammad says Jerusalem is the heart of the Palestinians, the heart of the Muslim and they will not allow Israel continue what they are doing in Sheikh Jarrah and elsewhere.
