Faizel Patel – 02/08/2021

The Gauteng Education Department says it is working on a system to “re-engineer” schools in the province to ensure the learning institutions are accessible to all parents for their children.

Parents and guardians will from 10 August be able to start applying for a place in a Gauteng school next year.

Gauteng MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi on Sunday announced that the department will open online and walk-in admissions for grade 1 and grade 8 pupils for the 2022 school year from next week.

Speaking to Radio Islam, Lesufi’s spokesperson Steve Mabona says the education department team will be reporting to the MEC twice week on the re-engineering of schools.

“All schools should be accessible to parents that are in Gauteng and most especially in your areas where you find a school that is using only one language meanwhile the community has changed in terms of the demographics. The plan is to look at all those and make sure that we re-engineer the schooling.”

Lesufi also stated that the admissions process, which will take place in two phases and is expected to be completed in November adding that it will introduce new changes aimed at making the process easier and more manageable for parents, guardians, and public schools in Gauteng.
