Former Proteas manager and cricket administrator Goolam Rajah has passed away.
It is understood that 74-year-old Rajah who hailed from Lenasia, south of Johannesburg and was respected among cricketing circles across the globe passed away on Tuesday morning.
Rajah was a dedicated pharmacist serving the Lenasia community for over two decades assisting the needy with their medication and health needs.
He was part of the South African Cricket national setup since the country’s return to the international arena in 1991.
Being the Protea’s team cricket manager for about 20 years spoke of his passion for service and love for the game of cricket.
His nephew Mohammed Bharoochi says the family are devastated by Rajah’s passing.
Baroochi says the family has received condolences from all communities including the cricketing fraternity.
“On behalf of the family, we would just like to ask everybody to sincerely remember him in their duas. Not only was he dear to us, but uncle Goolam was somebody who was close to everybody who knew him.”
Bharoochi says Rajah will be buried at the West Park Qabrastan in Johannesburg.
May Allah grant the Marhoom the highest stages of Jannah and sabr-e-jameel to his family, loved one and friends.
