Renowned journalist Fakir Hassen says his spiritual journey of hajj as a guest of the Saudi Arabian Hajj Ministry has been an unforgettable experience.
Hassen was speaking to Radio Islam on Monday about his new book the “21 days of Hajj” which will be launched soon.
In the book Hassen provides an insight into what goes on behind the scenes during the annual hajj and the largest gathering of Muslims in the world at holy sites in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Hassen says while it may be have been difficult balancing performing hajj together with writing the book, he wanted to share his personal experience with readers.
“At times during the process one does think of that what am I doing and how do I share it? But the idea right from the outset was to share a personal experience and I start off the book by saying I’m deliberately not going to share the deeper spiritual side of the hajj which is something so personal to every hajji.”
Hassen says he has distributed the book to a number of people including non-Muslims and the response has been overwhelming.
“When you find a person following the Christian faith reciting Allah Humma Labbaik and saying that he went on to the internet and watched a video on You Tube where people are doing it and he was repeating it exactly like they were, then I think that there is some value that has been added by this book.”
Hassen says while the Saudi authorities do a phenomenal job in preparing for hajj, he was given carte blanche to observe the insights and write about it as he saw it.
