[LISTEN] Elite Star Trading Donates Desperately Needed O2 Concentrators to COVID-19 Ravaged Namibia

July 08, 2021

Faizel Patel – 08/07/2021

As the world continues to battle the Coronavirus pandemic, there is a desperate need for oxygenators which is critical in the treatment of  COVID-19.

The African continent has been hard hit by the pandemic as Coronavirus infections and deaths continue to rise.

Speaking to Radio Islam, Elite Star Trading managing director Louis Greeff says Namibia, South Africa’s neighbour is being severely affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Greeff says Namibia has a critical shortage of Oxygen.

“With COVID you need oxygen. You can have medicines, but if you haven’t got oxygen this disease will just simply take its toll. So, in some of the towns you find that the doctor will convert his surgery and will have two or three oxygen concentrators. The patients actually take turns, you get a one-hour slot and that’s when you get your oxygen and than you have to leave and the next patient will come in.”

Greeff says Namibia is experiencing a COVID-19 catastrophe and desperately needed assistance and relief aid.

“We have got enough money together with the support that our own company is giving and we’ve procured about one hundred and sixty oxygen concentrators that we are busy shipping.”

Greeff says they are focusing on the far outlying areas to distribute the oxygenators.

“In the process we also took cognisance of the fact that minority groups in Namibia might be worse affected than actually majority of  Namibians that belong to the Christian faith. We also allocated machines to the three mosques that we are aware of that exist in Namibia, two in Windhoek and one in Walvis Bay.”

Greeff says it has become a regular occurrence for people who were infected with COVID-19 to convert their homes into a care facility for other patients infected with the virus.
