With just less than twenty days before hajj begins, the South African Hajj and Umrah Council says South African hujjaj who wanted to perform hajj this year should not be disheartened by the temporary delay.
To curb the spread of COVID-19 in Saudi Arabia, only ten thousand people in the Kingdom have been allowed to perform Hajj this year, seventy percent of them expats and thirty percent Saudi’s who are residing in Saudi Arabia.
South Africans will not be among them after International Relations minister, Naledi Pandor indicated that South African borders are currently closed and will not be open for international commercial travel.
At least four thousand South African Hujjaj were expected to perform hajj this year.
Sahuc’s Shaheen Essop says while many South Africans will be heartbroken, they must make the intention and prepare for the next opportunity.
“One needs to understand that Allah (SWT) is the best of planners. Allah has granted us an additional period between now and when Hajj will be available for those who travel internationally Insha’Allah. And Insha’Allah it gives us the opportunity to even prepare ourselves better when we descend in Saudi Arabia in order to perform Hajj in a manner that is prescribed to us by our Prophet Muhammad (SAW).”
