With just one day left before South African go to the polls on 8 May, the Democratic Alliance says while it is open to coalitions with other parties it will wait for the final election results.
Millions of people are expected to cast their ballots tomorrow in the 6th National Elections, 25 years after democracy.
Speaking to Radio Islam at the Results Operation Centre (Roc) in Pretoria on Tuesday, the DA’s James Selfe says coalitions are going to be possible in many areas of the country.
“We think the ANC is going to fail to get 50% in some provinces.”
Selfe says he is not concerned by EFF leader Julius Malema’s comments about ruling out future coalitions with the DA.
“On the issue of Mr. Malema’s rhetoric, well that is election rhetoric. We have posters up that says ‘keep the ANC and EFF out. So things get said elections that don’t necessarily mean that we have shutdown the possibility of coalitions with any party.”
Selfe says if the party gains major victories in the elections, they want to replicate the successes of the Western Cape and extend that to other provinces.
