Following a number of incidents on the N12 Highway, the Civilian Crime Intelligence Network (CCIN) together with Lenasia based security services company Lethal Forces have launched the CCIN N12 Risk Mitigation pilot project to make the stretch of freeway safer for motorists.

The initiative was unveiled at the South African National Museum of Military History in Johannesburg on Saturday.

It aims to provide motorists using the N12 outside Lenasia, Slovo Park, Eldorado Park and Freedom Park with proactive and collaborative safety and security 24 hours a day, seven days a week when travelling on the highway.

Spokesperson Khalil Mohammed says the project has been endorsed by the City of Johannesburg, South African Police Services (SAPS) and the Department of Community Safety.

“The initiative is there basically to help anybody on the N12. So if people got stuck with flat batteries, changing tyres, anything that will assist people that are driving on that stretch of road.”

MMC for Public Safety in the City of Johannesburg Michael Sun says the initiative will go a long way to make the N12 safer for motorists.

“This is how government can work closely with the private sector and when we speak about public safety, we cannot have a safe environment without the public.”

The patrols covers the N12 to and from Abu Bakr Asvat Drive in Lenasia to Viking near Eldorado Park.
