An elderly Muslim man from Lenasia has been commended for his generosity after going from masjid to masjid during the odd nights of the blessed month Ramadan and handing out sweets to those that are sitting for I’tikaaf.
Known as “Candy Man”, the elderly gentlemen, according to many Lenasia residents who know him, has been likened to a comic book super hero that many children can aspire to and learn from.
According to Radio Islam’s weekend Suhoor presenters Ml Yusuf Ravat and Ml Yusuf Osman, not only does “Candy Man” give out sweets, but reads two rakaats salaah in every masjid in Lenasia that he visits during the odd nights when many seek the night of Lailatul Qadr or Night of Power which is better than a thousand months.
Speaking during the Suhoor programme on Radio Islam on Sunday, Ml Osman says the man exudes so much positivity that people are happy and overwhelmed by his presence.
Ml Osman says “Candy Man” is a selfless individual who cares more about the welfare of others than himself.
“He actually goes to every masjid during these last ten nights to all the people sitting for I’tikaaf and he goes them, he greets them, he says ‘have a sweet, have a chocolate’.”
Ml Osman says the motive for his generosity and acts of kindness is truly amazing.
“He’ll tell you, ‘you guys that’re sitting for I’tikaaf, you are taking the burden of our whole community. So what I’m doing is nothing great. This is a small token of my appreciation just to say thank you for taking this burden off the entire community that you have taken your valuable time to sacrifice.’”
Ml Yusuf Ravat says “Candy Man” must truly be beloved to Allah for his khidmah and dedication and that many children can learn from his feats of kindness and generosity.
