The founder and editor of EA WorldView Scott Lucas says US President Joe Biden’s America Rescue Plan Act is expected to tackle the Coronavirus, accelerate vaccine rollout and measures to deal with the economic effects of the pandemic.
US co-operatives have welcomed the adoption of Biden’s plan.
The US$1.9tn rescue package was passed by the House of Representatives last week with a vote of 220 to 211, and by the Senate with 50 voting in favour and 49 against.
Lucas says Biden’s plan could make America great again, a line coined by his predecessor Donald Trump.
“This is the most ambitious anti-poverty programme since the great society of the 1960’s. So the pandemic has not only brought changes in American society, it’s become the foundation of what could be a very significant new America in terms of its parochial approach especially to those who were less furlongs.”
Lucas also shared news about the ten-year anniversary of the Syrian uprising.
He says Syria is no longer one country, but rather three.
“The Assad regime propped up only in place because of Russia and to an extent Iran does control much of the country. But now we have a part of the country in the North West which is anti-Assad, factions control it, they are backed up by Turkey. In the North East we really have a Kurdish area, a Kurdish autonomous area where there’s American military support. I don’t expect that to change, I don’t think Syria will be reunited as a country.”
Lucas says it is the Syrian civilians who have suffered.
“Hundreds of thousands killed, hundreds of thousands wounded, more than eleven million displaced. Simply because a small group of people in power in Damascus could not tolerate any type of calls for rights and justice and decided they’d have to crack down on it. That has brought us where we are.”
Lucas also provided updates on other wide-ranging news from across the globe.
